Phonics

Belgrave Primary School uses the Monster Phonics systematic phonics scheme. This makes learning more memorable and engaging by using a multisensory system.  It uses colour coding and monster sound cues.  Their scheme includes songs and activities which support learning when children encounter long vowels, silent letters and tricky letters.  This colour coding is used consistently and is then phaseed out, creating confident, fluent independent readers.  This scheme brings phonics to life, creates engagement and engages all children. 

In Key Stage 2 this develops into a superheroes spelling scheme which fosters a deep understanding of language, spelling rules and introduces vocabulary in a memorable way.
