Safeguarding
At Belgrave, we are committed to creating and maintaining a safe and secure environment for children, staff, volunteers and visitors.
We promote a climate where children and adults will feel confident about sharing any concerns which they may have about their own safety or the well-being of others.
What is Safeguarding?
Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.
Safeguarding means:
- protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
- preventing harm to children’s health or development
- ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
- taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes.
Safeguarding children and child protection guidance and legislation applies to all children up to the age of 18.
What is Child Protection?
Child Protection is part of Safeguarding and promoting welfare. It refers to the activity that is undertaken to protect specfic children who are suffering, or are likely to suffer, significant harm.
Safeguarding
At Belgrave Primary School, we take the safeguarding of our pupils very seriously. We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for children, staff and visitors and promoting a culture where children and adults will feel confident about sharing any concerns which they may have about their own safety or the well-being of others.
We aim to safeguard and promote the welfare of children by protecting them from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
We have key policies to help keep our pupils safe when in school and we welcome parents to read these documents. The aim of these policies is to ensure that our school has effective measures in place to safeguard from the potential risk of harm and that the safety and wellbeing of the children are of the highest priority in all aspects of our school’s work.
Our pupils have a Child Friendly Safeguarding Policy (available to read as attachment below) which is reguarly referred to during group discussions, class lessons and whole school assemblies.
Our policies are applicable to all on and off-site activities undertaken by pupils whilst they are the responsibility of the school.

Mobile phones in school
Belgrave Primary School strongly discourages pupils from bringing mobile phones to school. We have a clear policy in place outlining the procedures to follow if a phone is deemed necessary, which applies primarily to children who walk to and from school independently (Year 5 and 6).
