Pupil Voice

We asked the children to take a photo of something that they would like to talk about in Belgrave.

This prompted some interesting discussion and opinions.

Here we share both their photos and thoughts.

(One of the children chose to take a photo of an area where he particularly likes to engage in child-led learning.)

(Although we are lucky to have large outdoor areas, students can find small pockets in which to play and explore).

(One pupil took a photo of his picture of a bird (from the song that the class is learning- “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.”) The student refers to the “Green zone” which represents feeling “calm, happy or focused” and is a part of a wider structure called the Zones of Regulation which children can use as a communication tool at Belgrave.)

(One of our pupils chose to take a photo of the dog bowl- representing our school therapy dog. The dog visits the school and some of the children have a special bond with Coco- she helps them to feel calm and to express affection. She is also a great reading buddy!)

(One of the pupils chose to talk about the lockers. Independence is one of our key points for personal development at Belgrave and is promoted in so many little ways throughout the school day. The children are given individual and small group responsibilities- such as locker monitor/ school council, eco ambassador and many more.)

(One of our pupils chose to talk about the hall where she often goes to morning and after school wrap around care. The umbrellas that she spoke of represent our “no-outsiders” ethos (in this case each colour represents a neurodiversity.)

(A younger student took a photo of one of our nurture rooms.)

(A Year 2 Pupil took a photo of one of our art displays and was speaking specifically about the bee sculpture. He drew a link between the “bee” and our school rules and motif.)
