This week we have been reading the story 'The Bog Baby' by Jeanne Willis. On Monday we all went out to create our own bog babies using clay and natural materials from our wood.

The Mid Summer Watch Parade

On Tuesday afternoon we were joined by Russell Kirk from Chester's Mid Summer Watch Parade. We had lots of fun making the fish that will be waved at the parade. The classroom was a mess but what a great time we had!

 

       

               

     

Sharing stories with our buddies, by Mr Clifton

Scientific Classification Presentations for Year 4, by Mr Clifton

As part of our work on classification in science, we had to create branching diagrams to sort and classify animals of the African Savannah. We then had to prepare a presentation for the Year Fours to explain about how animals are classified and show them how our branching diagrams worked.

Seasonal Cooking Workshop, by Mr Clifton

On the 17th May, we spent a day at Bickley Hall farm. We saw how different food is grown and picked some rhubarb which we then made into a delicious crumble! We also did some pond dipping and disected owl pellets.

Before designing our own shelters, we evaluated different tent designs and looked at what makes them strong.

This week the children in Reception have been using an App called Doodle Buddy to create a piece of artwork. 

They have been exploring the different tools, backgrounds and stickers the app has to offer.

Here are some snapshots of the talents of our fantastic musicians which were recorded at a special Key Stage two Musical Celebration on Thursday 16th March.

It features the Band and the Year 4's who are currently midway through their year of the Wider Opportunities Scheme.  The choir were also invited to sing their new song.  The Year 3/4 recorder group performed aswell. 

Year 5 Midsummer Night's Dream Drama Workshop, by Mrs Bowle

Today, January 31st 2017, we were visited by the wonderful Lois of Pick and Mix Theatre, who recreated the Shakespearian play of Midsummer Night's Dream with the year 5 children. A great time was had by all.

This afternoon Year 2 were trying to find out how they can make a piece of paper waterproof.

They took a piece of regular paper and looked at what happened when water was dropped on it.  They used the same amount of drops each time to make it a fair test.

They then experimented with different techniques trying to make their paper waterproof.

They used

  • plain paper
  • wax crayon
  • pencil crayon
  • oil pastel
  • felt tip
  • chalk
  • cellotape.
  •  

Which technique do you think worked best? Why?

Elf on a shelf, by Miss Campbell

This week Reception have been learning all about Elf on the shelf.  The children decided to call our very own Elf Neddy!

 

Every morning Jezzy the Elf is found sitting in a different place in the classroom.  What an adventure he must be having when we are all asleep!!
